Beddington Lane vans, the ULEZ and the BlueHDi AdBlue system
Past the Beddington Lane tram stop, the industrial estates keep plenty of Berlingo and Dispatch vans busy, and most of the newer ones run BlueHDi diesels. Those engines meet Euro 6, which is what keeps them clear of the ULEZ charge that has applied across Beddington since August 2023. The catch is that Euro 6 depends on the AdBlue system working, and a van that spends its day crawling between yards and recycling sites gives its pump, heater and NOx sensors a hard life.
When an AdBlue fault appears, the dashboard usually starts a countdown to a no-start, which is the last thing a working van needs. We read the fault codes, check the fluid quality and test the pump and heater before deciding whether the tank assembly has to be replaced, as it does on many models. Older HDi vans with an Eolys-type DPF get their additive level checked at the same visit, because a van that rarely sees a long run relies on that additive to regenerate.
Round Beddington village and the streets off Plough Lane, the Citroëns are more often family C3s, C4s and C5 Aircross SUVs with the 1.2 PureTech petrol. Those cars mostly do short trips, which is exactly the use where oil quality matters most for the wet timing belt. We gauge the belt at each service, check the oil level and condition, and tell you plainly where it sits against the revised replacement interval. Low mileage does not stretch that interval, because oil ages with time as well as miles.
Every job is quoted in writing before we start, and repairs carry our 3-month workmanship warranty. For vans that cannot be spared for long we can book an early slot, and collection and delivery can be arranged if you would rather keep working. At 1.6 miles, even the far side of BedZED is close enough for a quick test drive together to hear a noise or feel a gearbox fault.
