Cuddington, the ULEZ boundary and keeping an older Fiat diesel
The London-wide ULEZ applies on the Sutton and Kingston side of Worcester Park, but the Cuddington part is in Surrey and outside it. That means an older, non-compliant Fiat diesel, such as an early 1.3 MultiJet Panda or Punto, can be driven locally around Cuddington without the daily charge, and only pays once it heads into London. Most petrol Fiats, including 1.2 Fire and TwinAir 500s, are compliant anyway, so the question mainly affects diesels.
If you keep an older diesel on the Surrey side, we can look after it, but bear in mind that bringing it to Hackbridge means driving within the ULEZ. Collection and delivery can be arranged, though the charge applies to the vehicle on any day it is driven in the zone, whoever is driving. We will talk that through honestly when you book, so there are no surprises. If the car is compliant, none of this applies and the booking is like any other.
Mechanically, a 1.3 MultiJet that potters around Beverley Brook and Mayflower Park but also runs up the A2043 Malden Road towards Kingston tends to keep its particulate filter healthier than one that only does local trips. We read soot and oil dilution data at each service and check for the start-up rattle that can mean a stretched timing chain on higher-mileage engines.
For petrol Fiats, the priorities are the 1.2 Fire belt's age limit, oil to the Fiat 9.55535 specification for TwinAir and MultiAir engines, and Dualogic fluid and calibration where fitted. Every repair is quoted in writing and carries our 3-month workmanship warranty. If you drive to us, stay on Cheam Common Road rather than cutting through Browning Avenue, where there is an ANPR-enforced bus gate. A penalty charge there would cost more than some of the jobs we do, so the main-road route is well worth the extra minute.
