From Stonecot to Cheam Park: MultiAir, MultiJet and Fiat warranties
Along the wide inter-war roads of Stonecot and North Cheam, the Fiats tend to be bigger than the typical city 500: 500X crossovers and Tipo hatchbacks and estates, many with the 1.4 MultiAir petrol or 1.6 MultiJet diesel. Owners of the newer ones often ask whether servicing away from a dealer affects the warranty. It does not, provided the car is serviced to Fiat's schedule with parts of matching quality and the work is recorded, which is protected under the Block Exemption rules.
The MultiAir engine is efficient, but it opens its inlet valves using engine oil through an electro-hydraulic unit. If the oil is the wrong specification, low or overdue, that unit can cause rough running, misfires or limp mode. We use oil meeting the Fiat 9.55535 specification for your engine and note the level at each visit. On MultiAir engines that use a timing belt, we check the age and mileage limits as well, because a low-mileage 500X can pass its age limit first. The belt gives no warning before it fails.
The A217 gives Cheam's diesels a useful regular run, which helps the DPF regenerate. Cars that mostly potter between the village, Cheam Park and Whitehall do not get that, and on a 1.3 MultiJet in particular short trips can dilute the oil with diesel and bring up an oil change warning early. If that happens, it is not a fault with the warning, and we will explain what it is telling you. The oil needs changing, and a regular longer run helps keep the dilution down.
In the narrower village streets near the conservation area, parking can be tight, so collection and delivery can be arranged if bringing the car over is awkward. Any work beyond the service is quoted in writing first, and repairs come with our 3-month workmanship warranty. The drive is about 4 miles along the A232 through Sutton and Carshalton, around 12 minutes.
