Euro 6d diesels and their more complex SCR systems
Many of the diesels in Wimbledon are newer SUVs and premium estates built to the later Euro 6d standard. To meet it, some manufacturers went further than a single AdBlue injector and catalyst. Certain models have two SCR catalysts with separate dosing points, extra NOx and temperature sensors, and software that monitors every stage. It works well when healthy, but there are more components to go wrong and more for a diagnosis to rule out. Hybrids and EVs are growing in number here, but the diesels that remain tend to be the larger, more complex ones.
The way these cars are used doesn't always help. A car that mostly does the run from Raynes Park along Worple Road into the town centre, or waits in traffic by the New Wimbledon Theatre and the Polka Theatre on The Broadway, spends much of its life below the temperatures the SCR system prefers. Newer systems cope with that better than older ones, but crystallisation and sensor faults still happen. The steep climb of Wimbledon Hill Road warms things up briefly, but rarely for long enough to make a difference.
We use dealer-level diagnostic equipment to read each part of the system separately, run the dosing tests the manufacturer specifies and carry out the adaptations required after a repair. Parts are OE or OE-equivalent, matched to your vehicle's emissions system. Repairs by an independent garage using parts of matching quality don't affect the manufacturer's warranty, and you'll have a written quote before we start.
The route from the town centre is about 5.5 miles: The Broadway to South Wimbledon, the A24 to Morden, St Helier Avenue to Rose Hill, then Wrythe Lane and Hackbridge Road. Controlled parking covers most of the town centre and the Village, with some zones running until 11pm, so collection from home is often easier than finding somewhere to leave the car. During The Championships, allow extra time. The repair carries our 3-month workmanship warranty.
