Second cars, Central Road and ageing air filters
Worcester Park has plenty of two-car households, and the second car often does short local runs: the shops on Central Road, the station, or the school gate. Cars like that can go a long time between services, and the air filter is one of the parts most often missed, because it rarely reaches its mileage interval. Most manufacturers also give a time limit, usually two to four years, after which the element and its seal should be replaced regardless.
Central Road is the only real through route in the centre, and it slows to a crawl with parking, bus stops and crossings, especially on Saturdays. North Cheam crossroads adds more queuing on the way out. None of that is extreme, but short trips in slow traffic mean the engine draws in more exhaust and road dust per mile than it would on an open road. Cars parked under trees near Dancer Dick Wood or Auriol Park can also collect leaves in the intake.
Worcester Park also has plenty of older, well-kept cars owned by long-standing residents. On those, the filter itself is only part of the check. Rubber intake hoses harden with age and can crack after the filter, letting unfiltered air in, and airbox clips can become brittle. We inspect all of it, clear out the housing and fit an OE-equivalent filter that matches the original's dimensions and seal. If anything beyond the filter needs replacing, we'll show you and quote before going ahead.
The drive is about 20 minutes: Cheam Common Road to the North Cheam crossroads, Malden Road to Cheam Village, the A232 through Sutton to Carshalton, then Hackbridge Road into Hackbridge. It's worth pairing the filter with a service or MOT, and collection and delivery can be arranged. We'll give you a written quote first, and our 3-month workmanship warranty covers the fitting.
