What is wheel alignment?
Wheel alignment adjusts the angles of the vehicle's wheels relative to each other and to the road. The three main angles are toe (wheel angle viewed from above), camber (wheel lean viewed from the front), and castor (steering axis angle viewed from the side). Correct alignment keeps all four tyres perpendicular to the road and parallel to each other.
What causes alignment to go out?

How misalignment affects tyres
A toe misalignment of just 0.5 degrees causes the tyre to scrub sideways approximately 8.8 metres for every kilometre driven — equivalent to dragging the tyre constantly. The result is rapid, uneven tyre wear. A new set of tyres can be destroyed in 5,000–10,000 miles on a badly misaligned car.
