Why do turbos fail?
The vast majority of turbo failures are caused by oil starvation or contamination. The turbo shaft spins at up to 200,000rpm on a thin film of engine oil. Delayed oil changes, incorrect oil spec, or running at high load on cold start before oil pressure is established all damage turbo bearings.
What is included in a turbo replacement?
We never just swap the turbo. The oil feed pipe and return pipe are removed and inspected for sludge or restriction. The oil system is flushed and fresh oil and filter fitted. The new turbo is pre-lubricated before starting. The engine is run at idle for several minutes without revving to allow oil pressure to establish.

Loss of power particularly under hard acceleration. Blue or black smoke from the exhaust. Whining or grinding noise from the turbo. Oil in the intercooler. Boost pressure fault codes and check engine light. Engine going into limp mode.
